Lively Queen Anne Living
This 1891 Queen Anne is a lively example of the style – but had a service wing incongruous with contemporary living, and the primary bedroom lacked a proper bath and closet. We were tasked with reimagining the kitchen, mudroom, and primary suite, but to do so in the spirit of the home’s Queen Anne soul.
The ell is now a large kitchen with ample light, expansive counters for food preparation, and seating for informal gatherings. Details include a custom hutch for dishware display and linen storage, cleverly hidden extra freezer, and unlacquered brass accents throughout. The mudroom, awash in rich color, is filled with built-ins to serve the young family’s storage needs. A new cased opening connects the kitchen with the dining room, which has a new wet bar in white oak, adding function and a focal point.
Upstairs, a dormer, seamlessly woven into the existing roofline, creates an expanded primary suite. A spacious, walk-in closet and luxuriously-appointed new bathroom round out a primary suite fit for any modern couple.
The house is now as comfortable as it is charming.
