Frank Shirley Elevated to AIA College of Fellows

February 13, 2025 – Frank Shirley, founder and principal of Frank Shirley Architects, has been elevated to The College of Fellows at The American Institute of Architects (AIA), one of the highest honors awarded in the architectural profession.

Fewer than 3% of AIA members hold the prestigious FAIA designation, which recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the field of architecture and to society. Frank Shirley joins an esteemed group of professionals whose work has shaped the built environment at a national level.

Here is what Frank had to say about this honor:

“It is an honor to be a Fellow, to be given a distinction alongside those I hold in the highest esteem, and to be recognized for pursuing my passion in a profession that has given me joy.”

Frank Shirley’s elevation reflects his tireless efforts and expertise in carrying forward the legacy of historical buildings whether rehabilitating, adapting, or designing anew. His contributions are not only through his designs, but through education to architects, homeowners, and other stewards of our architectural history. Additionally, Frank published a widely-referenced research study on the life-cycle costs of windows, used by the National Park Service, and authored an acclaimed book: “New Rooms for Old Houses: Beautiful Additions for the Traditional Home”.

The 2025 Class of Fellows will be formally recognized at the AIA’s annual Conference on Architecture & Design (AIA25) in Boston, with an Investiture Ceremony on June 5, 2025.
